pics, paper, and such.

i was wandering around (again) on my memory card this evening

trying to weed through the bajillions of photos to make some

space for new ones and i came across a few of some of the invites/ cards

that i made this summer.  i thought i would share with you before i hit the

delete button and/or move them to a soon to be forgotten

folder on my computer.   hope you like.

"Clay's Pirate Party"

favorite feature:  the flags.  i sewed/ glued them on, but i got lazy on the

above sample and only used glue.

The L Family's "We've Moved" Card

favorite feature:  the fact that everything on the card was simply

created by using shapes, lines, fill effects, etc.

"Colorful Poppies" Baby Shower Invite

favorite feature:  the poppies, of course, but i also absolutely love the suttle

geometric pattern on the cardstock.  it created a lovely background.

"Drew's 2" Invite

favorite feature(s):  the red open ended envelopes that i put them in

and the font used for the word "two".

i obviously became obsessed with using fabric flags/ bunting on my invites this summer.

i actually liked this one (isla's "1" invite) so much i had to use the technique

a few more times . . . at least :)

and I can't seem to stop myself from eating spoonfuls of this this evening.
so yummy.  it is especially good on her crepes, but tonight spoonfuls will do.

a perfect ending.

It was that beyond perfect kind of "almost" Spring day today in Mid MO. 
The kind where everyone has their car window rolled down and an a
little extra bounce in their step.
(remember when we used to have to actually roll the car windows down?)

I wish that I could have spent the whole day basking in the wonderful sunlight. 

When I left work for lunch I seriously considered all of a sudden

coming down with the "warm day" flu, but resisted because I thought

my co workers might miss me too much ;0. 

However, I wasn't going to let the day get away without

at least an hour or two spent in the warm fresh air so the

"A" fam headed to the local drive-in in for some dogs and

dipped cones (I actually had an egg salad sandwich). 

It definitely made up for the daytime hours that I had to spend indoors.

Miss "I" even got to enjoy a few bites. 

When Bryan would bring a bite up past her mouth she would

make this funny whining-begging noise. 

So far she is a lover of all foods, but especially enjoys the

small portions of sweets we have given her thus far.

My last two posts have been about food that I haven't made -

that should tell you a little something about me. 

Actually, it is not that I don't enjoy cooking, it's

the preparation/ planning part that gets me. 

My hope is get better at this and SOON.

sensational simple soup.

Mexican Potato Soup

2 cans chicken broth

1 can cream of chicken soup

2 lbs frozen hash browns (with peppers and onions)

Mix above ingredients and cook until potatoes are done. 

Add 1 lb of Velveeta Mild Mexican Cheese. 

Cook until cheese is melted.

Kid friendly version:  use regular hash browns (no peppers and onions) and regular velveeta cheese (instead of mexican) - it still tastes fantastic!

treasure hunting.

Maddox, Isla, and I went "treasure hunting" this past weekend and two "treasures" found a home in our house.  With a little spray paint this metal lamp adds a little color to an otherwise dull area of our family room.  My intention was to paint it green, but I had this color left over from another project so I went with it - its kind of quirky looking, but I like it!

The second "treasure" found is this old trunk that needs alot of help, but for $20 I couldn't pass it up.  Until I have some time to rehab it I just cleaned it up and through some fabric over it for now. 

I know, I know it's pretty rough.

AND . . . as a follow up to a previous post.  This is wonderful.

. . . "make it yourself" frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3 . . .

I rewarded myself with that for finishing these (programs & seating chart). 

Now off to the wedding with the kiddos this weekend.

"the unofficial end to summer"

I loved the way this watermelon looked so I just had to share it with you. It smelled terrific too - too bad there isn't a "scratch-n-sniff' button option :0)!

I came home from work early today and I caught the end of Oprah. I began to watch when I heard her say that this is something you must do before you die - she was talking about having a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3 in NYC. Since I have been to NYC once and may not get the chance to go back for a long long time, I decided to do the next best thing and order some. After all, chocolate may just be the cure I am looking for. I can't wait to try it and I promise to let you know if it is indeed something one must do before passing.
