6.27.2010

ended with a splash.

as an ending to our "girls weekend"  miss i and
i ventured out to the town pool today.
she was more interested in the people than
she was the water.  i expected this, but
i wanted to do at least one thing summery
this weekend.

we are missing our boys . . . bad.

and i must give some credit to my mom and nieces (kenadi & emily) for contributing to
"i's" girls weekend.  they took her overnight so that I could "get some stuff done".
i finally did, but for about the first 4 hours i wandered around my
house aimlessly thinking about how weird it was to be there
without at least one of my two little people.
i actually got a little emotional . . . can you say hot mess.
after you become a mom, you just can't win.
you want to be alone , but then when you're alone you
just can't help but feel just a smidge guilty.

anyway, here's hoping that i can find more time this week than last
to drop in on my lovely blog.  did i tell you i painted
the "front room" . . . that is what kept me occupied most
of last week.  can't wait to show you.

girls weekend.

So what's the first thing two chickas do when they gotta a
little time on their hands, some jingle jangle in their pocket,
and none of the opposite sex around to hurry them along . . .

small hint :).

I mean really . . . need I say more.

(as for the last pic,
lil' chicka insisted on pushing
the cart down every aisle. thanks
mom for the trip to Kohls where you let her
get out of the cart and run all over the store,
she obviously remembers that- no more cart
sitting for this little lady.)
As for the second
a little snuggle time.

Now don't get us wrong,
dad and bro are greatly missed,
but we must admit it's kind
of nice having some time
for just the two of us.

PS - Are only purchases at the bullseye
were a new outfit and toy top for "I"
and a Starbucks for me.
That's it, that's all
we just needed our fix.

6.20.2010

dad's day.

Happy Dad's Day to
the king of our world!

We hope you know how much
you are appreciated and loved.
YOU ARE THE BEST!

the party.

Party Day.

The Birthday Girl.

She pranced around the entire day as if she knew it was all about her.
Setting the Mood.

The Guests Arrived.

We Ate.

Yes . . . even spiderman made an appearance.

A Game.

Pin the hair bow on Isla to be exact.

Present Opening Time.

Perhaps her new baby doll being her favorite.
The rehabbed doll bed from brother will come in handy.
The only thing missing was her birthday quilt
(which I hope to have and be able to show you very soon).

Cake Time.

More Fun and Games.

Party Favors.

The End.

Olive.  My friend Ursa's little one. She's a little piece of heaven.

Awwwww ......... Nice and Clean.

I think we will keep the party decor around for awhile.

The PARTY . . . nothing BIG or SPECTACULAR . . . but PERFECT it was.

We loved having company and sharing "I's" BIG day with them.
(I forgot how nice it was to have company and throw a party for that matter.)
Nothing like a party to help raise my spirits about my little girl turning the BIG one!

Lots of love to my friend Ursa for all of the pictures!
And all of your handmade goodness ;).

a fake turkey and thoughts.

Target practice with a not so real turkey
in our non existent backyard and
a four year old who is hunting obsessed.
Papa we know that you would have
loved to get more use out of
your turkey decoy, but we sure
hope you are paying attention up there
because you would love
watching "M" with it.
And just so you know,
the other day, I went to wake "M"
up for school and found him laying
in bed looking at the picture of you and
him and that big big fish.  That day
still the best day of his little life thus far.
And because we probably never told
and if you are listening now . . . thank you.
Thank you for the memories you left
behind and for everything that you taught my
four year old and my thirty-three
year old.  We think of you lots
and tonight was no exception.

And Isla . . . well Isla tonight was just
enjoying her feet in the breeze
without a care in the world.

3.18.2010

a perfect ending.

It was that beyond perfect kind of "almost" Spring day today in Mid MO.
The kind where everyone has their car window rolled down and an a
little extra bounce in their step.
(remember when we used to have to actually roll the car windows down?)

I wish that I could have spent the whole day basking in the wonderful sunlight.

When I left work for lunch I seriously considered all of a sudden
coming down with the "warm day" flu, but resisted because I thought
my co workers might miss me too much ;0.

However, I wasn't going to let the day get away without
at least an hour or two spent in the warm fresh air so the
"A" fam headed to the local drive-in in for some dogs and
dipped cones (I actually had an egg salad sandwich).

It definitely made up for the daytime hours that I had to spend indoors.

Miss "I" even got to enjoy a few bites.
When Bryan would bring a bite up past her mouth she would
make this funny whining-begging noise.
So far she is a lover of all foods, but especially enjoys the
small portions of sweets we have given her thus far.

My last two posts have been about food that I haven't made -
that should tell you a little something about me.
Actually, it is not that I don't enjoy cooking, it's
the preparation/ planning part that gets me.
My hope is get better at this and SOON.

3.14.2010

quilt making frustrations.

HAPPY.
Squares laid out for a preview of the what could be.

STILL HAPPY.
6 squares sewn together.

 NOT SO HAPPY.

Two strips of 6 squares sewn together.  It's hard to tell just by looking at these pics,
but even with pinning, my squares are way off.  Debating on ripping the seam and starting over.
However, I am scared that the next time will be no better than the first.  Oh well, what else can I do but try and say to myself "I will not make a mess of this so pretty fabric." :).

No time to try again now.

Headed to my sister's for a small birthday gathering for
my niece Emily who turned 8 last Monday.

These were painted with love by me (and Isla)
for her new room.

I hope she likes them.
